Papua New Guinea (PNG) is home to one of the world’s largest remaining tropical rainforests. With support from FAO’s AIM4Forests programme, the country is strengthening its forest monitoring by meeting the requirements of the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF), a flagship initiative launched by the Government of Brazil to reduce barriers to participation and promote the use of transparent, reliable data from national forest monitoring systems.

The PNG Forest Authority is leading national data collection to more accurately assess forest cover. This initiative will help generate greater benefits for Indigenous Peoples and forest communities, who own and manage much of the country’s forests. PNG is demonstrating strong leadership in advancing transparent, inclusive, and community-centered forest monitoring.
