Her birthday was just a couple of days ago. I wanted to reach out. I thought maybe it was a chance to reconnect after all this time. I didn’t, so it’s hitting harder than if I had. It’s making my mind wander back to that time in June at China Walls. The moonlight on the water, the way she pulled me in, that first kiss. I believed it would be the start of something real.
For the better part of a year now, I can still hear her and feel her, as if she’s not really gone. That night leaves me feeling stuck between the dream of that night and the cold reality of now. It’s like a strange limbo, half dream and half nightmare. That memory is still very alive even after all this time. I keep recalling the future we talked about, but the truth is we barely made it too far beyond that night.
