In this video, Dr. LaPrade discusses the key points of his lecture at the Global Cartilage Expert Consensus Meeting in 2018. His lecture highlights fresh osteoarticualr allografts for the treatment of osteochondral defects. The use of fresh osteoarticular allografts are a viable for treatment for osteochondral defects in the knee. Osteoarticualr allografts are still the gold standard treatment for osteochondral defects. Overall, there are still improvements that need to be made in terms of when and how they are used.

A meeting like the Global Cartilage Expert Consensus Meeting is important for young surgeons because they can learn from several generations of surgeons. The meeting has surgeons that started the infancy of the ACI procedure. Dr. LaPrade was involved in the beginning of fresh allografts. For younger surgeons being able to see what the older generations went through, and how they modified treatment, it can help the younger generation improve how they treat their patients.
