Until the arrival of Luang Pu Tuang a few months ago the temple at Ban Don Makgel had been vacant for some time and was falling into disrepair. Luang Pu Tuang a retired civil servant had become a Forest Monk when he retired at 60 and apparently was a little reluctant to leave the forest to take up this post. Since his arrival, with the help from local people and surrounding temples, he has been busy fund raising and overseeing the restoration of his temple. He says he is now enjoying being here where he can serve the people of the Ban Don Makgel district. Local temples here perform tasks undertaken by many different institutions in western societies, and are very important to the people living in their surrounding areas.

Day 3 Morlam (Concert) It always amazes me how quickly the huge concert (morlam) stages are erected. Yesterday when I left there was nothing, not even the vehicles bringing the stage, and here it is a matter of hours later fully ready for use. Until now, today has been much the same as yesterday, people bringing their money trees and donations.
