In the heart of Thanjavur, an ancient city known for temples and kings, lies a small, forgotten railway station — Thanjavur Junction. Locals say that when the moon turns full and mist covers the tracks, a ghostly woman appears near the old signal post.
It all began decades ago when a young woman named Meera lived in the nearby village. She worked at the station tea stall and waited every evening for her fiancé, a train driver named Ravi, who promised to marry her after his next long route. But fate was cruel — one stormy night, his train derailed near the junction, killing everyone on board. Heartbroken, Meera ran to the tracks, searching for Ravi’s body, and never returned.
Since that night, people whisper about a white-saree woman who walks silently along the platform after midnight. Station guards hear soft crying, and passengers feel a cold breeze even in summer. Some have seen her reflection in the glass windows, though no one stands behind them.
One railway worker, Arun, once stayed late for night duty. Around 1:15 a.m., he heard footsteps approaching. Thinking it was another worker, he turned — and froze. There stood Meera, her long hair swaying, face pale as moonlight, eyes filled with sorrow. She whispered, “Have you seen Ravi?” before vanishing into the fog.
The next morning, Arun resigned and never came back. Since then, no one dares to stay alone at Thanjavur Junction after midnight. Even today, the signal post glows faintly yellow — as if remembering her spirit.
Locals believe Meera still searches for her lost love. Some claim she appears only to kind-hearted souls, while others warn that looking into her eyes brings bad luck. Travelers who visit the station at night often leave a cup of tea near the bench — hoping her restless spirit finds peace.
