Shauq
Is deis mein gham ka kabhi mausam nahin hota
Ismat bhi ujad jae to maatam nahin hota!
Saqi ki na saghar ki na sahba ki talab hai
Ik shauq-e-ghulami hai ke jo kam nahin hota!
Na saans hi lene ki na dhadkan ki sada hai
Aisa to kabhi huu ka bhi aalam nahin hota!
Kamzor ka peete hain lahoo shah azal se
Kaisa hai yeh dastoor jo dar-ham nahin hota?
Hukkaam to zaalim ke isharon pe hain raqsaan
Munsif bhi sitamgar pe barham nahin hota!
Sahra mein jo nikle ho to hiddat ka gila kya?
Sarsar ka thapera koi shabnam nahin hota!
Nadaan haseen khwab saja lete hain dil mein
Waada koi rehbar ka to muhkam nahin hota!
Awaaz koi zeir-e-sitam uth nahin sakti
Jab deeda-e-maikhwar hi purnam nahin hota!
Seene pe naye zakhm lagao ke sukoon ho
Uthta bhi hai gar dard to paiham nahin hota!
Mitne ko hai duniya ke yeh dil toot chuka hai
Qudrat ka ishaara kabhi mubham nahin hota!
Naasoor hon dil mein na koi aag si bhadke
Yoon ishq mein arfa koi jaanam nahin hota!
Mahshar sa Aqeel aisa ajab dil mein bapa hai
Woh shor sa uthta hai jo madham nahin hota!

शौक़
इस देस में ग़म का कभी मौसम नहीं होता
इ़स्मत भी उजड़ जाए तो मातम नहीं होता!
साक़ी की न सागर की न सहबा की तलब है
इक शौक़-ए-ग़ुलामी है कि जो कम नहीं होता!
न सांस ही लेने की न धड़कन की सदा है
ऐसा तो कभी हू का भी आलम नहीं होता!
कमज़ोर का पीते हैं लहू शाह-ए-अज़ल से
कैसा है ये दस्तूर जो दर-हम नहीं होता?
हुक्काम तो ज़ालिम के इशारों पे हैं रक़्साँ
मुनसिफ़ भी सितमगर पे बरहम नहीं होता!
सहरा में जो निकले हो तो हिद्दत का गिला क्या?
सरसर का थपेड़ा कोई शबनम नहीं होता!
नादान हसीं ख़्वाब सजा लेते हैं दिल में
वादा कोई रहबर का तो मुहकम नहीं होता!
आवाज़ कोई ज़ेर-ए-सितम उठ नहीं सकती
जब दीदा-ए-मैक़वार ही पुर्नम नहीं होता!
सीने पे नये ज़ख्म लगाओ कि सुकून हो
उठता भी है गर दर्द तो पैहम नहीं होता!
मिटने को है दुनिया कि ये दिल टूट चुका है
क़ुदरत का इशारा कभी मुबहम नहीं होता!
नासूर हों दिल में न कोई आग-सी भड़के
यूँ इश्क़ में अरफ़ा कोई जानम नहीं होता!
महशर सा अ़क़ील ऐसा अजब दिल में बपा है
वो शोर सा उठता है जो मद्धम नहीं होता!
The ideas of state, citizenship, and the rule of law are often portrayed as the pinnacle of human progress—but history tells another story. These concepts were not born from compassion or equality; they were crafted by the ruling classes—the “masters”—as tools to solidify their control. Under the old order of slavery, the master had a clear obligation: to feed, house, and clothe his slaves, if only to keep them alive for work. This responsibility was costly, and it limited the master’s freedom.
The invention of the “state” and “citizenship” solved this problem brilliantly—for the masters. By granting the slave a new identity as a “citizen,” they stripped away the old legal obligation to provide life’s essentials. The burden of survival shifted entirely onto the individual, while the ruling elite retained absolute authority through the rule of law—laws they themselves wrote to protect their dominance.
The result is the neo-slave: someone who believes they are free, who celebrates their “rights,” yet who must beg, toil, and compete endlessly just to secure food, shelter, healthcare, and dignity. Unlike the slave, the citizen can starve without it being the master’s problem. Unlike the slave, the citizen pays taxes to sustain the very system that exploits them.
The tragedy is that the neo-slave defends this system, believing it to be the highest form of civilization. In truth, citizenship—under the current political and economic order—is not liberation. It is a more efficient, more deceptive form of bondage. Slavery chained the body; citizenship, as we know it today, chains the mind.
