Slurry Contamination Kills Hundreds of Trout in Northern Ireland
River pollution from slurry in Northern Ireland has resulted in the death of over 1,000 brown trout, according to the Antrim & District Angling Association (ADAA).
The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has linked the fish kill in County Antrim to slurry contamination, the Irish News said.
Footage posted on May 18 by the ADAA shows dead fish in the Four Mile Burn river.
“Several of our members walked 3 miles of that stream and counted hundreds of dead fish from last year’s crop,” ADAA’s said.
A DAERA spokesperson told the Irish News: “From the assessment of the impact on the fishery, a major fish kill has been confirmed, with 1,109 brown trout of varying ages being killed.”
