Here's a rollicking hillbilly take on Stanley Yankovic's "Jingle Bell Polka." But should Yankovic really get writing credit on this? It's just Jingle Bells to a polka beat. Either way, this is a song to grab your partner and go round and round at the square dance.

The Pinetoppers have actually been covered on my instagram feed once before, with their 1951 version of "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas" with the Marlin Sisters (aka "The Beaver Valley Sweethearts"). The Pinetoppers' band leader and mandolin/guitarist George Vaughn Horton wrote "Mockingbird Hill" among other hits.

This song is the B-side to the ballad "Christmas in November," sung by Elton Britt with the Pinetoppers backing him up. It's a super depressing song about a boy who they know won't live until Christmas so they celebrate early. I won't be spinning that side again anytime soon. The tone of that side made this all the more surprising when I flipped it over.
