Do rewards actually work?

This is a short commentary with Niklas Forsstroem on a published paper entitled Reward Is Enough | Artificial Intelligence Research Analysis.

Scientists at DeepMind who co-authored the paper suggest that reward maximization and reinforcement learning are enough to develop artificial general intelligence.

Will we be able to make machines with the kind of general intelligence seen in humans? Its a quest to maximize AI, however with reinforcement learning the sky’s the limit! Essentially rewarding the algorytm to put out more general AI.
