This is our first day on the Pieterpad, the most famous long distance hiking trail in the Netherlands. Spanning 500 kilometers from Pieterburen in the North to Sint Pietersberg in the South, this iconic route promises endless walking adventures.

We (my dog Frodo, my stuffed friend Poefi, and I) are hiking the long distance trail northbound, starting at the Sint Pietersberg in Maastricht (The Netherlands). Before officially beginning our hike, we take a moment to enjoy the stunning views over the ENCI marl quarry from the viewing platform and explore a nearby marl cave. After climbing back up the many steps, we head towards Fort Sint Pieter, a historically significant fort, especially during the Belgian independence war in 1830.
From there, we venture into Maastricht, a city with over 2,000 years of history, home to one of the oldest bridges over the Maas River.
Exiting the city, we enter a picturesque landscape filled with marl caves, forests, and hollow paths. Following the small river Geul, we finally arrive just outside Valkenburg. Tired but satisfied, we hop on the train back to Maastricht.

Eindelijk tijd gevonden om de eerste dag van het Pieterpad te stappen! 🚶‍♂️🐾 We vertrekken op de Sint-Pietersberg in Maastricht, genieten van het prachtige uitzicht over de ENCI-groeve en trekken door het mooie Zuid-Limburgse landschap. Na 17 km stappen komen we moe maar tevreden aan net buiten Valkenburg. Kijk mee naar de start van ons avontuur!

Enfin trouvé le temps pour entamer la première journée du Pieterpad, un sentier de grande randonnée aux Pays-Bas ! 🚶‍♂️🐾 Nous partons du Sint-Pietersberg à Maastricht, profitons de la magnifique vue sur la carrière ENCI et traversons les superbes paysages du sud du Limbourg. Après 17 km de marche, nous arrivons fatigués mais satisfaits juste à l’extérieur de Valkenburg. Nous prenons ensuite le train pour retourner à Maastricht. 😃
