IBS: What Can You Eat?

Описание к видео IBS: What Can You Eat?

Kelsey L. Able, DO, described irritable bowel syndrome and its incidence; shared myths about food allergies; gave an overview of the low-FODMAP diet; and discussed the role of fiber in one’s diet.

1. IBS is defined as recurrent abdominal pain for, on average, at least one day per week during the last three months.
2. The prevalence of IBS worldwide is 11.2%. Patients with IBS have two times more appendectomies and hysterectomies and two-three times more gallbladder removals.
3. Although 30%-50% of patients believe their symptoms are related to a food allergy or intolerance, most don’t have true food allergies. The prevalence of true food allergies in adults is only 1%-3%.
4. A low FODMAP – Fermentable Oligosaccharides Disaccharides Monosaccharides And Polyols – diet can help you manage your IBS symptoms.
5. Insoluble fiber, such as bran, worsens IBS symptoms. Psyllium, a soluble fiber, improves IBS symptoms.
