Pakistan has sold 75% stake of Pakistan International Airlines for approximately ₹4,300 crore, marking one of the most significant privatisation moves in the country’s aviation history. The contrast becomes striking when compared with India. In the Indian market, acquisition offers for Bisleri, a bottled water company, have reportedly gone as high as ₹5,000 crore. That comparison alone highlights the collapse in valuation of Pakistan’s national carrier.

The irony deepens further. In India’s case, Air India was once found to have a ₹100 crore Boeing aircraft lying unused in inventory—practically forgotten—without threatening the airline’s survival. The difference lies in financial depth, governance capacity, and market confidence.
