Beginning in Mohave County at the site of the famous Horseshoe Bend - the infamous subject of motel art photographs for the last fifty years - we encounter such plants as Eriogonum corymbosum, the scrub oak Quercus welshii that forms massive colonies on the red sands, and Ephedra torreyana.

Later, at higher elevations we see the goldenrod relative Petradoria pumila growing with rocky mountain Douglas Fir.

Further West we check out some plants growing on the North rim of the Grand Canyon, then make our way to a remote site to see the rare and endangered Pediocactus peeblesianus. Finally we end the day on some gypsum exposures of southern Utah.
