The hottest day of the year so far and I invited my son on a "leisurely ride" up to Llyn Ogwen in Snowdonia. I forgot to tell him that it was mainly uphill all the way to the cafe. To be honest, I found it much harder going than when I last did it on a fully laden gravel bike with narrower tyres. Although there is a short section on gravel through the slate quarry, the majority is on tarmac and I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing it on a mountain bike with wide knobbly tyres.
