In today’s lesson we are going to talk about the homophones ‘To’, ‘Too’, and ‘Two’. These words are easy to get confused because the pronunciation is exactly the same for ‘To’, ‘Too’, and ‘Two’, but the spellings and meanings are different. In today’s video you will learn the differences between TO, TOO and TWO in English and be able to use them with confidence!

During the explanation of the different uses of To, Too and Two there are many example sentences which should help you to understand this grammar point better.

"Two" is how you spell the number 2.
Examples, “I have two bananas.” "I bought two pies." “Those two girls are my friends.”

*"Too" is an adverb and it has also has two meanings.
Also/ In addition: "He likes travelling too!" “I bought ice cream too.” “I should eat vegetables too.”
Very / Excessively: (too + adjective) “Korean food is too spicy.” “Canada is too cold.” (too + adverb) “I was driving too quickly.” “My neighbours are talking too loudly.” (non-count nouns use too + much) “They bought too much candy.” “It costs too much money.” (countable nouns use too + many) “There are too many people on the bus.” “I ate too many sweets.”

"To" is a preposition and has two main meanings.
-In the direction of, movement towards, the result of, the destination: “The girls went to the store.” “I travelled to Japan and Taiwan.” “I’m going to give a present to Alma.” “The light changed from red to green.” “I work from nine to five.”
-Used to create the infinitive, a way of linking the main verb and a second verb together in a sentence: “I want to eat chocolate.” “I need to sleep.” “You decided to study English.” “I can’t wait to improve my skills!”

これらの言葉'To','Too'と'Two'は、全く同じ発音ですが、スペルや意味が 違うので 混同しやすいです。

"Two"とは、数字の2のスペルです。

*"Too"は 副詞であり、二つの意味が あります。
Also/In addition( 〜も、〜に加えて):彼も旅行が 好き。アイスクリームを買い過ぎた。野菜も食べるべきだ。

"韓国料理は、とても辛い""カナダは、とても寒い". (too+副詞)"とても早く車を運転した" "隣人が 喧しく話している" (不可算名詞 too+much)
"彼女らは、キャンディを買い過ぎた"お金を使い過ぎた" (可算名詞 too+many) バスには とても多くの人がいる。お菓子を食べ過ぎた。
"To"は、前置詞で 二つの主な意味がある。
その方向, 〜に対する動き, 〜の結果, 〜の目的地: "その少女たちは、お店に行った" "日本と台湾に旅行した""アルマにプレゼントをあげるつもりです"信号機が 赤から緑に代わった" "九時から五時まで働く。
文中 本動詞と二番目の動詞をつなける方法である不定詞を作って使う。
私は チョコレートを食べたい。私は 眠りたい。英語を勉強することに決めた。私のスキルが 進歩するのが 待ち遠しい。
