Gangavadi Veerabhadra Swamy and Bhadrakalamma Yelandur Chamarajanagar tourism Karnataka tourism temples of Karnataka. This temple is also known as Veerabadreshwara Temple
Yelandur is famous for its Balemantapa temple. Yelandur has more such hidden treasures most of which are in the process of renovation instead of restoration. Little is left of the original ancient architecture and my effort was towards finding these places tucked away in the interiors of the Chamarajanagara District.
During one such visit i chanced upon the Veerabhadra Swamy and Bhadrakalamma Temple at Gangavadi, Yelundur. The statue of the deities are 5 to 6 feet tall. The best part is that although it is said that the temple was restored during the Ganaga times, but the actual temple existed even before that and no one knows when the initial temple was built here.
It is said that during the Ganga times this temple was in ruins and was restored along with regular pooja in 1000 A D. No further information could be gathered about this place. i was not able to locate it on google map neither is there any mention of it on Internet. All the information was gathered from the people around the temple and the people associated with the temple.
The road leading to the temple is very bad. These hidden temples of Karnataka hold lot of value but needs lot of support. The ancient temples with beautifully carved idols is must see.
