The Potato Chip Goby is a great fly pattern for fishing flats anywhere gobies are found. It’s also a nice sculpin or baby sucker imitation as well, particularly when you are sight fishing in slower water. The primary species for this fly are carp, smallmouth bass, and perhaps bonefish (haven’t fished to bonefish with this fly yet). Normally about 2 to 2.5 inches long, it can still be tied much larger if you like, but this is a sweet spot of sorts. It’s particularly good on the Great Lakes, like Lake Michigan.
