Today on our 2012 Dodge Journey well be installing your Tow-Ready 4-Pole Wiring Kit part 119176KIT along with Tow-Ready 4-Flat Mounting Bracket part number 118144. First, well need to access the rear cargo area then well remove the rear light assemblies. To do that, we need to remove the two pushpin fasteners securing it. Next well go ahead and disconnect the wiring connectors from the taillight assembly and set it aside. And next were gonna test the wires. Were gonna find out which are our running circuit, our brake circuit and our turning circuit.

To do that, Im gonna use a piece of wire to back probe the connectors. We know that the top connector is gonna house the running and brake light. So our white wire with the gray tracer is for our running circuit. Next well test for the brake circuit. Our brake light is going to be the white wire with no tracer.

Next we need to check for our turning signal. Turn signal will come out of the separate connector or bottom connector. So our turning signal will be the white wire with a blue tracer. Now we know which wires we need to make a connection with. Well go ahead and peel back the tape to make a little working room.

Now well go ahead and repeat the same process of removing the tape for the brake and the running light circuit. Now we can go ahead and take our new Tow-Ready harness and start making connections with our wires. The first well do is our taillight circuit. Well use the white wire with the gray tracer and the way well make our connection is using a quick connector. Simply slide it into the manufacturers wire all the way into the grove and then behind it well slide in our brown wire from our Tow-Ready connector.

Then we can crimp down our quick connector and lock in place. Next well take our red wire which is for our brake circuit and use our quick connector to tie in our 4-pole connection with the manufacturers. The yellow wire will be hooked in line with our turn signal. Now with those connections made, we can go ahead and take our 4-pole wire and the green wire from our box. Were gonna feed that down between the body of the vehicle and the bumper cover. These will get routed underneath the vehicle. The 4-pole to the center, to the hitch, and the green wire over to the passenger side where it will get fed up between the bumper and the body and make a connection on the passenger side taillight. Next, Im gonna go ahead and mount my converter box. Well peel back the two-way adhesive cover. For mounting your converter box, youre looking for a clean flat surface. Just below the taillight assembly is the perfect location. Next well take the white wire with the preformed ring terminal. This is our ground circuit, and using a self-tapping screw attach it directly to the body of the vehicle. Weve got one more connection to make here on the driver side, its to the red power wire coming from our converter. Well use the black wires provided with our install kit to make a connection with the butt connector after we strip back the wire. This black wire now get routed to the battery it will be our power wire to our converter box.Now weve made our connection, were finished with all our connections here on the driver side and weve got our wires fed up underneath that will need to be routed both to the battery, to the hitch and to the passenger side. Lets go ahead and take some black electrical tape and tape up each one of our new connections. This will help to keep out moisture, dirt and debris. Now with all our connections made, well go ahead and reinstall the taillight assembly. Now before I get underneath and start routing my wires, Im gonna go ahead and remove the passenger side taillight assembly the same way we did the driver. Okay, now with the taillight assembly removed, we can go ahead and back probe the connector and test for the passenger side turn signal. Its gonna be the white wire with the yellow tracer. Now well go ahead and get underneath the vehicle and start routing our wires. For this application, our green wire is actually not long enough to reach all the way to the passenger side. So what well need to do is add some wire to get the extra length that we need. Simply strip back our wire, connect it with our butt connector for some additional green wire. Now we can go ahe
