Alien Fish Finger (2011) by Skull Army ( David J. Cruickshank ) is a simple 2D shooter created by one enthusiast who, it must be admitted, did a pretty good job. The game was originally released in 1995 for Amiga computers as non-commercial shareware. In 2011, the developer decided to once again release a slightly improved version of the game to raise money for charitable causes related to cancer research. A generous guy you have to admit . Getting back to the game Alien Fish Finger is one of the most confusing game titles I've had to deal with ..... honestly no idea how it connects to what we see on screen. In the game we play as Frank Finger, who has been sent to an alien world in order to stop evil aliens, from invading earth. Maybe it's the aliens that look like fish hmm..... whatever. The game is a single-screen 2D shooter with minimalist graphics and virtually non-existent music. It may not sound very inviting, but the gameplay itself more than makes up for all that. Shooting and throwing grenades is surprisingly well implemented thanks to good physics and positioning of our character to the given situation. We can shoot from three different positions: standing, crouched and from a crouched position only with the weapon placed right on the ground. Each pose means a different angle of the shot, making the gameplay more complicated than it might seem at first glance. Grenades are thrown by holding down the fire button, and they kill everything in close proximity. They are most useful when we are behind some cover or on slopes where we cannot shoot diagonally. Each fallen opponent drops his weapon, which we can pick up. When we collect the right amount, our weapon will deal more damage, and this can be observed by firing a different type of bullets from our rifle. The world of Alien Fish Finger may not be stunning, but it is so well designed and interesting that you can definitely turn a blind eye to this aspect. Overall, this title does not pose much of a challenge, and probably no one will have any problems with it. There are bosses, but they really pose the same threat as regular enemies :P The sound effects are ok, but the creator definitely exaggerated the volume of the grenade explosions. If you're not aware, you can really get scared by a sudden explosion, they're so loud. Overall, I highly recommend it, because it is a title from which I expected absolutely nothing and received a lot in return.
