I had this report on tonight’s 95.5 FM “Hot Seat: Media Monday”: a deeply emotional conversation with two young people from Herkimer whose parents were suddenly taken by ICE after more than two decades of building a life in America. With no warrant, no clear explanation, and even separated into detention centers in different states while applying for green cards, this law-abiding family was thrust into chaos just as the school year began. The young voices in this interview describe fear, confusion, and the trauma of watching their parents disappear into a system that offered little information or humanity — yet they also speak with remarkable resilience and belief in the American Dream. Their story exposes the real human cost of aggressive immigration enforcement and shows how community support can become a lifeline in the fight against injustice.
