Reaction from Naomi Osaka on Monday after the Japanese former world number one was beaten by the seventh seed, China's Qinwen Zheng, 6-2, 6-4 in the last 16 at the Italian Open in Rome.

Four-time Grand Slam winner Osaka, now ranked 173 in the world following her maternity break, said that overall she was happy with her performance and that her experience in Rome would stand her in good stead for the upcoming French Open at Roland Garros.

“I think I definitely feel a lot more confident, leaving (Rome) than when I came,” she said. “I hope that I can learn a lot from the match I played today and apply it, and do really well in Paris.”

“I don't feel like I played that well today, but overall, I'm really happy I was able to fight a lot in the second set,” she added.
