Another misinformation about Hinduism is that most people know that Mahabharata was written by Ved Vyas but this is incomplete truth. Ved Vyas was not a name but a title given to the person who had knowledge of Vedas! And the real name of the Ved Vyas who wrote Mahabharata was Krishna Dwaipayan! And there were 27 Ved Vyas before Krishna Dwaipayan, while he himself was the 28th Ved Vyas. He was named Krishna Dwaipayan because his complexion was dark (Krishna) and he was born on an island. Ved Vyas' Mahabharata was written in three phases. 8,800 verses were written in the first phase, 24 thousand in the second phase and one lakh verses in the third phase. Apart from Ved Vyas' Mahabharata, the Sanskrit Mahabharata of Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Pune is considered to be the most authentic.
