This guide is devoted to the question of why a PESEL number is indispensable for Board Members of Polish companies to be held - at least one of them will need to have a PESEL number assigned to be able to submit the company's financial statements using the EPUAP electronic signature. What is more, each Board Member receiving remuneration for their work for the company will also need a PESEL to submit their personal income tax return forms from the year 2022 on.

In the light of recent Polish regulations, holding a PESEL as the most common ID assigned to natural persons residing and/or working in Poland, be it for healthcare, tax or reporting purposes, is the only way to become elligible to receive an ePUAP electronic signature. PESEL is also indispensable if one wishes to obtain a certified digital signature from an external provider. In the cases of both solutions, only PESEL holders will be fully prepared to meet their reporting obligations related to an electronic way of document submission which is a standard one in Poland now.
