theCITY EP37 Grierson Letters

Members of the Fort Concho staff talk about their successful quest to bring home a batch of historical letters written at the western outpost in the late 19th century by a post commander's wife in the newest episode of "theCITY."

The letters, written by Alice Grierson to her sons, were discovered for sale on eBay by Fort staff, which then procured the funds from the fort's foundation board to purchase the documents. The missives provide a detailed and interesting account into daily life at the fort. Fort Concho will make the letters available online and will exhibit them during this year's Christmas at Old Fort Concho event.

The new episode of "theCITY" also features an employee spotlight of Carl van der Sterre, a supervisor at the Water Reclamation Facility, where wastewater is treated so it can be safely used for irrigation.
