What Went WRONG for Season of Discovery?

Season of Discovery at one point was the shining jewel for World of Warcraft Classic, generating as much hype as any new expansion has for World of Warcraft. However, over time Season of Discovery's once huge popularity has rapidly decreased for various reason, and we are still yet to get into Phase 4. With Cataclysm Classic being recently released, alongside Phase 4 for Season of Discovery due to be released, there's a lot of changes coming in World of Warcraft Classic.
