PM Modi earlier welcomed Chancellor Merz at the Sabarmati Ashram, a location symbolising India’s civilisational values of dialogue, peace and simplicity. This is Merz’s first India visit since taking office and comes as India and Germany mark twenty-five years of their strategic partnership. Beyond symbolism, substance followed. The two leaders are holding talks on trade, investment, technology, defence, green growth, education and innovation. Germany sees India as a pillar of global growth, while India views Germany as a key European partner. With the India–EU Summit approaching, the visit adds momentum to India’s expanding engagement with Europe. From kites in the sky to strategy on the table, the message is clear. India is confident, culturally rooted, and shaping global partnerships on its own terms.
