Описание к видео How long should I wait before getting pregnant again?

You wanted to know if there are risks associated with having babies too close together. Research has shown that for the wellbeing of the mother, the toddler, and the developing fetus, babies should be born at least two years apart. There’s various reasons for that. When babies are born really close together, it does increase the chances of complications for the subsequent pregnancy. If you think about it, pregnancy and breastfeeding is going to deplete a mother’s body of very important nutritional stores and if she gets pregnant too quickly, her body doesn’t have time to replenish those stores and so the one that suffers most is the developing fetus and also the mother. Research has shown that a mother’s body will have low levels of circulating folate if she gets pregnant too soon after a previous pregnancy. When a mother has low levels of folate in her body it increases the chances of having neural tube defects like spina bifida for the developing baby. Other risks associated for the developing fetus include autism and schizophrenia and the mother may also have low iron levels and it can cause problems with the pregnancy. She’s at more risk for preterm birth, placental abruption, placenta previa, and also the mother’s at higher risk for depression and anxiety and I think there’s lots of reasons for that. When you have your first baby and you’re just deathly sick during the first trimester, you can lay down and you can kind of take care of yourself but when you get pregnant and you have a small baby or toddler to take care of while you’re sick, that’s really really hard and that adds a new element to it that you hadn’t experienced before and just puts a lots of strain emotionally on the mother. She might be sleep deprived while also pregnant and that also makes you tired so there’s lots of good reasons to wait at least two years. You also need to think about your previous pregnancy and risks that might exist because it can be compounded by getting pregnant too soon. One, for example, might be a history of preterm delivery or a history of c-section even. The uterus needs time to heal before carrying a baby again and, at the very least, a woman should wait twelve months before conceiving again because when delivery happens within 18 months of each other the risk for uterine rupture is significantly higher than it would’ve been if the woman waited a little bit longer before getting pregnant and delivering another baby. Ultimately, if you just had a baby it would be best to use a reliable form of contraception and to wait to try to conceive until your body has returned to an optimal healthy state and that will help you to have the best outcome in the future. Before trying to conceive, talk with your doctor and make sure there aren’t any medical conditions that need to be addressed before you get pregnant again so that you can have the best outcome possible in your future pregnancy. Good luck with everything, and if you have more questions in the future for me, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at facebook.com/IntermountainMoms and recommend us to your friends and family too.
