Spending time with lions is one of my absolute favorite things about being on safari, and Botswana never disappoints! This was an exciting encounter on one of my trips to northern Chobe National Park (where I've visited many times) about two years ago. Only about 10 minutes into the early morning 6am game drive while staying at Chobe Safari Lodge, we came across this huge pride of 23 lions!(the largest in the area at that time) The king was actually beginning to chase off one of the juvenile males, which is what happens when a male reaches sexual maturity at around 2-3 years of age. The young males will then go off on their own to find a female,
and start their own pride. In this very large group, there were two brothers acting as the kings, numerous females, and cubs of various ages as you can see from all the videos. We spent over an hour in the middle of this pride observing them all... For a lion lover like me, this was one heck of a memorable morning!
