Out of Bounds is an iconic one-person play in which Gopie brings 28 characters to life in 90 minutes, showcasing exceptional versatility, humour and emotional depth. The production has been performed widely across South Africa and abroad, receiving strong praise for its honesty, humanity and powerful storytelling.

Out of Bounds follows the coming-of-age journey of Lal, a young Indian boy growing up in KwaZulu-Natal during and after apartheid. Through vivid storytelling and seamless character shifts, the play explores identity, belonging, family dynamics and the pressures and expectations that shape young people’s lives.

Gopie’s performance moves effortlessly between a wide range of characters: family members, neighbours, teachers and community figures, creating a layered, engaging and often humorous portrait of South African life.
