1. Linear Equation in One Variable:- If an equation involves only one variable and the highest index of power of that variable is 1, the equation is called a linear equation in one variable.

The general form of a linear equation in one variable x is ax + b = 0, a ≠ 0 or px = q, p ≠ 0.
Examples:-

(i) 2x = 8

(ii) 4y = 9

(iii) 3z = 7

(iv) 2x + 4= 7

(v) 81x + 45 =123

2. Procedure to solve a linear equation in one variable:-
First, put the variable on the left-hand side and the numerical values on the right-hand side. Change the operators while changing sides of the terms and then solve for the variable.

3. During Solve the equation sign changing rule from L.H.S to R.H.S and vice versa.
