Dr. Springel works on cosmological simulations using supercomputers. He has developed various numerical codes which he used to create massive high-resolution simulation of the evolution of structures in the Universe. He has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of the importance of feedback from star-formation and active galactic nuclei for the formation of galaxies. In 2020 he received the Gruber Cosmology Prize for his defining contributions to cosmological simulations.
