Ethiopia is often called the origin of humankind due to various hominid fossil discoveries such as the Australopithecine "Lucy".Recent DNA evidence suggested, After analyzing the DNA of almost 1,000 people around the world, that humans originated and spread from around what is now Addis Ababa 100,000 years ago. The fossilized skeleton, and a plaster replica of the early hominid Lucy (known in Ethiopia as Dinkinesh) is one of the numerous preserved hominid skeletons at the Ethiopian National Museum in Addis Ababa.

Addis has more than enough history and sights to warrant more than just a stopover. Historian Carlo Conti Rossini once characterized Ethiopia as a “rich cultural mosaic”. He could have also been speaking about Addis Ababa itself.
