A dramatic night at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. Two F-16 fighter jets were reportedly scrambled to escort a passenger jet headed to New York from Los Angeles, after sources say three passengers locked themselves in the restroom and refused to come out.

Sources tell PIX11 News the fighter jets maintained a visual on the American Airlines flight, but remained out of sight of passengers. Sunday they told us that the flight in question - was American Airlines number 34 - and it landed without incident at JFK at or near Gate 44, in American Airlines Terminal No. 8. At first, it was unclear if the fighter jets had actually taken off - or if they were just set to launch.

Authorities said once the plane landed at JFK, Federal Air Marshals and Port Authority Police immediately boarded Boeing 767-200 -- with guns drawn, adding the passengers of interest were promptly interviewed. Other passengers were slowly allowed to exit the plane without a problem.

One published report said the captain assessed the situation and there was absolutely no security threat whatsoever.

in other security-related developments today, there have been broadcast reports the White House Facebook Page was targeted with threats. Anonymous posters threatened among other things "we'll come back USA to kill you all."

All this comes on a weekend of enhanced police activity around New York City on the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11th.

Police and surveillance equipment were noticeable at multiple sensitive locations around the city and will be there for at the remainder of the weekend.
