Concerned South African ARTISTS SHUTDOWN NAC for Annual Project Funding postponed/delayed outcomes. Prominent Arts Activist and Practitioners gathered outside the entity to get answers.

Artists on the 17th of October 2025 outside the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) offices in Newtown demanding the entity to release the 2025 Annual Project Funding outcomes.

This strike was not about the numbers on how many people who attended but about the unified voice of the artists and the impact of the shutdown. Later on, on the same day, Leader Thami Mbongo contacted the NAC officials who proposed to do the announcement of the recipient starting with the visual artists (20th), followed by Theatre, Craft, Literature and Dance (23rd October), and close with the results for Theatre and Multidisciplinary (31st October 2025). Leader Thami Mbongo brought the proposal to the artists who were present and through as survey process to those who couldn't be at the National Arts Council. Practitioners were frustrated and angry at the decision taken by the National Arts Council of South Africa (NAC) without consultation the sector. NAC was supposed to speak to the arts sector about the postponement as they always do with the funding application processes through webinars.
