There is a very special Community Place on the Great Northern Peninsula (GNP) that believes in people, place, and community.

In this episode of Looks Like Social Enterprise, co-hosts Kim Todd of Guide to the Good and Nicole Dawe of Community Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador talk with the 'community broker' of GNP Community Place, Joan Cranston, and Andy Hornsell of Social Enterprise Solutions.

GNP Community Place is centre at Port aux Choix, on the west side of the Great Northern Peninsula, about 1/2 of the way up the GNP if you start from Norris Point. Where space is big and populations are small, access to health care services like physiotherapy, acupuncture, and massage can be challenging. Yet, these and other services are vital contributors to wellness. In 2022 GNP Community Place began offering health services. That was just the beginning.

In 2023, with $25,000 in support from the Investment Readiness Program, Joanie built a team to explore the options to build a thriving community centre and social enterprise to expand the health and wellness services, and create space for the community to flourish around.

Based on other similar spaces, GNP Community Place can become thriving health, community, and a food hub.
