Attacking on different elevations in your combo can be advantageous. The first strike steals the high line, which, if it hits is great, but even if all it does is push the opponent back or defend, creates an opening on the midline of your opponent. Your opponent is forced to respond and react by shifting his defense if he wants to maintain his position and distance which might create an opening for you.
