Today we are exploring Playa Blanca in Lanzarote with a 15 Mile Hike.

This epic hike takes us along the promenade and then hiking up the side and around the rim of a volcano.

After descending the volcano from other other side we hike and explore an abandoned hotel.

After we explore the abandoned hotel we take a coastal trail back into Playa Blanca where we return to our starting point and grab some Tapas.

Here are some interesting facts about Montaña Roja in Lanzarote:

Inactive Volcano: Montaña Roja, meaning “Red Mountain,” is an extinct volcano. It last erupted over 50,000 years ago, contributing to the unique volcanic landscape of Lanzarote.

Height: The volcano stands at approximately 194 meters (636 feet) above sea level, making it a relatively easy climb compared to other volcanic peaks.

The abandoned hotel:

The Atlante del Sol, commonly referred to as the “abandoned hotel” near Playa Blanca, Lanzarote, is a notable yet unfinished structure located along the island’s southern coast.


History and Background:
Construction Era: Initiated in the 1970s, the project was intended to be a luxury resort. However, construction was abruptly halted, leaving the building incomplete.
