We explored Hong Village in Ziro Valley, Nagaland, with the aim of delving deeper into the food culture of the Apatani tribe residing there. Accompanying us on this journey were our knowledgeable young guides, Oman from OurGuest Travels and Guddi. En route from Itanagar to Ziro, we made a stop in Potin for a rice meal as we were hungry. Subsequently, we paid our respects at Siddheshwarnath Temple, located 6 km from Hapoli, the main market of Ziro. One of the intriguing features of this shivalingam is that the flow of water at its base is perennial.

Upon our arrival in Ziro, Guddi, our gracious local guide, greeted us at Danu Polo Temple. Guddi, who leads tours across the North East, introduced us to the Apatani community's ladies who had assembled there to rehearse their dances for the upcoming Dree festival. After a brief interaction with the lovely ladies from varied age groups we proceeded to the picturesque emerald meadow where the Ziro Music Festival unfolds its magic. From there we headed to the residence of our gracious host, Yamayang where we had the privilege of experiencing an authentic Apatani meal.
Inside Yamayang's humble bamboo and wooden house, a central cooking counter on the floor took center stage, where roasting and cooking occurred over open fire. With little assistance from Anubhav, she effortlessly prepared three traditional dishes - Paro Yo Penii, Papu Panii and Paro Yo La Papu Payo Nii.

Later on we joined her for the meal. This immersive experience allowed us to gain enriching insights into the Apatani culture and culinary traditions.
