The Battle for Kursk
Declared the largest tank battle during the German invasion of the Soviet Union so far, the battle has seen nearly 150,000 Germans and over 600,000 Soviets killed, with thousands more captured and hundreds of tanks destroyed on both sides, a significant loss that is detrimental to the Soviet war effort as Zhukov, Rokossovsky, Vasilevsky, and many other prominent Soviet figures attempt to pull together some semblance of a frontline along the now battered and crumbling Stalingrad line east of the city. The Panther Tank, having been put in the spotlight during Operation Citadel has proved itself as an effective war machine despite minor setbacks, now instills fear in Soviet troops as the tank that took Kursk from them. Alongside the terrible military situation that the Soviet Union is in, the political situation now too began to take a turn for the worse as members of the Soviet high command begin to scheme against Stalin, who has begun to be perceived as weak following the disaster in Moscow, which saw the supposed ‘leader of the revolution’ flee the capitol.
