Описание к видео How The US Dollar Crashed To Zero

#History #Economics #Inflation
We are taught that America won the Revolution because of bravery. The truth is, America almost lost because of bankruptcy.

To fight the British, the Continental Congress printed paper money called "Continentals." They printed so much that by 1780, hyperinflation had destroyed the economy. Soldiers at Valley Forge weren't starving because there was no food; they were starving because their money was trash. This is the untold story of the first American financial crisis, British counterfeiting warfare, and how the US Dollar crashed to zero.

Imagine paying $100 for one dollar. In 1780, that was reality. The "Continental Dollar"—the first currency of the United States—suffered a catastrophic hyperinflation event that wiped out the wealth of an entire generation.
We think the Dollar is stable. But 250 years ago, it went to zero. To fund the Revolutionary War, the Continental Congress printed money with no tax revenue to back it. The result was a text-book hyperinflation spiral.

1775: $1 Continental = $1 Gold.
1778: $5 Continentals = $1 Gold.
1781: $160 Continentals = $1 Gold.

But the real killer was the British. In a secret operation, the British Army mass-produced counterfeit bills and distributed them throughout the colonies, purposefully diluting the supply until the paper was literally worthless. By 1781, the crash was so severe that barber shops in Philadelphia were wallpapered with $50 bills, and sailors sewed suits out of the worthless cash.

In this video, we breakdown:
The "Printing Press" Trap: How Congress printed $241 Million with zero assets to back it.
The British Sabotage: The secret "economic warfare" campaign that flooded the US with fakes.
The "Barbershop" Indicator: The moment the currency became cheaper than wallpaper.
The Redemption: How the US Government eventually redeemed the worthless paper at 1% of its value (The "Hamilton Bailout").
