Gamma Seal lids leaking? Fix your 5-gallon bucket feeders for your bees

Описание к видео Gamma Seal lids leaking? Fix your 5-gallon bucket feeders for your bees

Gamma Seal lids DO NOT come watertight, but it is easy to MAKE them watertight.

Screw-on lids for 5-gallon pails come in two parts: a snap-on part with the female thread, and the actual lid with the male thread. The two parts are supposed to seal together with a gasket. Unfortunately, the two flat surfaces that compress the gasket together aren't very flat, they sometimes have bumps that need sanding. 150 grit sandpaper flattens them out pretty quick and then your lid won't leak anymore. Fix this problem and you'll find that your bees may not be drinking as much syrup as you thought.

Also, when your bucket feeders leak and you place them on a concrete surface in the sun, then the sugar will crystallize on the bees and kill them. See this video:    • Huge mistake while feeding honeybees,...

ONE YEAR LATER: some of these are still leakproof and some are not - super unreliable. There's lots of wear and tear on the gasket after twisting it off and on dozens of times. By the way, don't put vaseline on the gaskets- it won't help them seal, and it WILL make the gaskets expand until they no longer fit the lids!
