There is always a time or a season that bring challenges that inspires or change life of a human being, Ranging from Natural calamities to Social practices. In this rendition We bring you a story of a drought that made the Nomadic pastrolist of Laikipia and Samburu migrate and search for pastures in Mount Kenya and other parts of the Country .Many livestock died during the drought season which was between March and June.As livestock keepers the pastrolist communities were the hardest hit by the drought since almost half of the population were pushed to absolute poverty. The below-normal long season harvest of June 2000 threatened the food security of pastoral and subsistence agrarian populations throughout the northern, central, and eastern areas of the country. Malnutrition and disease became more prevalent among agrarian and pastrolist populations. The herders resorted to the only option of migration to Mount Kenya and other forest areas,The journey particularly to Mount Kenya had its challenges and adventures. In this rendition we bring you all about it blended in this beautiful African folk song NAMELOKAI one of the most popular songs in the early 2000 to 2002. We will Forever appreciate assistance offered by some Ranches during that time and Particularly Lewa conservancy who were reported to have assisted The Herders who were camping near Leparua in Isiolo County with foodstuffs and Water. As they said in one of the common verses of the original Song "God do not let our Morans go back to Mount Kenya under the same suffering"...That will remain our prayer as Nomads.
