Black Hole - End of Time is an immersive audiovisual experience set in space and in orbit around a black hole. Using over 30 lasers and several high power projectors, the 30 minute performance is a visual interpretation of the story that underpins Paul Alty's Behind The Clock and Divide By Zero albums, which provide the music for the piece.

Paul Alty is an award winning lighting designer and combing his lighting prowess and self-composed music, he now works to create venue-filling multimedia installations and sensory explosions of light, colour and sound.

Much of Alty's work is set to or inspired by time, space and the cosmos, alongside more darker themes of mortality and the origins, endings and fragility of life. Whilst there is an underpinning story to the performance, fundamentally the piece is to be watched, absorbed and enjoyed. The story and the science are there if the audience want it.

Every surface of the church was illuminated by lasers, lighting or projections, depicting imagery of black holes, space, clocks and kaleidoscopes! Look up, look down, look sideways, the floor, walls and ceiling were covered in animation, whist the air above your head fizzes with the hum of laser beams.

Black Hole - End of Time 2023 (and the variations before it in 2021 and 2022) was performed over three nights for charity, raising money for Backup Tech UK, The Entertainment Charity (https://www.backuptech.uk), and the host venue, Old Christ Church, which is now used as a community event space and supported by the Churches Conservation Trust.

The Story
Black Hole - End of Time is a 30 minute performance formed of four sequences:
In Orbit Around a Black Hole - Come face to face with a black hole that silently and ominously floats in space; but don't get too close!
Above The Clouds, Below The Stars - Gaze up at the crystal stars that explode like fireworks of light and colour. Watch how the laser beams dance through the air with swirly white clouds at your feet.
The End of Time - Witness the black hole burst in colour and light until it slowly starts to fade and start to dissolve back into space.
Contemplation - An ending to fly back through space and a time to contemplate life and our short time on this tiny planet before we too are returned back into space. We're all made of star stuff and one day, we'll all become stars again.
