Some planets in our solar system have been visited by scientific probes less frequently than others. The gas giants Uranus and Neptune are far away and difficult to reach. Uranus is twenty times farther from the Sun than Earth, and Neptune is thirty times farther. Mercury is so close to the Sun that any probe sent in its direction would have to move in a "roundabout" way to compensate for the Sun's enormous gravitational influence. There are many problems with Venus. It is our closest planetary neighbor and is easier for spacecraft to reach, but a dense cloud hides its outline, and the surface of the planet is in hellish conditions.
