JoAnn shares with us her stories as the youngest has a large family that made their way west from Oklahoma. she describes living in the bay area and being part of Marin‘s American Indian community. as an mother educator and restaurant owner for many years, she’s cultivated her life experience into valuable knowledge she generously shared with us in this video.

Conversations with Our Elders is a series focused on gathered the tales, stories, humor and wisdom of Our Indigenous Elders of Marin.

MAI is honored and humbled by the generosity of our Elders to share their unique histories, experiences, and memories.
With respect due our Elders and their stories, we don’t question their authority of their own perspectives, rather we stay in a place of reverence and openness as they share their unique lived experiences of places, people loved and lost, and the roads they have travelled.
We listen and absorb our Elders’ wisdom as we have been taught to do. We share this with all and for preserving the understanding of our elders for all current and future generations.
It is our intention that the Conversations with Elders series will raise awareness of both the diversity and commonalities of Indigenous communities and the complex and varied ways it means to be Native American.
