Pillars of Democracy: A House Divided — Preston Manning

CPAC’s documentary series, “Pillars of Democracy”, tells four pivotal stories of democracy that changed the political and social landscape in this country in the last quarter century.

“A House Divided” is the story of how the Progressive Conservative Party became a house divided against itself in the 1980s, ultimately giving birth to the Reform Party. And it is the story of promises made and promises broken, as conservatives reunited and became the Conservative Party of Canada in 2003. “A House Divided” is a story about representation.

In this full-length interview, we speak to Preston Manning, the former leader and co-founder of the Reform Party of Canada. The official opposition leader from 1997-2000.

He worked to try to unite the two conservative parties of Canada, the Reform and Progressive Conservatives, and was also responsible for the creation of the Canadian Alliance.
