Great Ocean Road: Torquay to Otway National Park

Описание к видео Great Ocean Road: Torquay to Otway National Park

In this video we explore the Great Ocean Road, one of Australia's most popular tourist attractions. We start in Torquay taking in the sights at the Jan Juc, Rocky, Little Bird Rock and Bird Rock lookout points, with a brief stop at Bells Beach. Further on, we encounter Point Addis Marine National Park before a brief ice cream and coffee stop at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie & Ice Creamery. On the drive onward, we pass through Anglesea and Aireys Inlet, where you can find the Split Point Lighthouse, before arriving at the GOR Memorial Arch. This is a memorial to the returned WWI-veterans who were responsible for building the initial stretches of the Great Ocean Road. Continuing, we take a brief exit from the GOR at Lorne, to visit the Erskine Falls, our first step into the Great Otway National Park. Then, we return to the GOR, and in Lorne we find Teddy's lookout and, somewhat further, Mount Defiance lookout.

We then spend the night in Apollo Bay, after which we make a slight backtrack to visit the Carrisbrook Falls. Once back in Apollo Bay, we go up to Marriner's lookout, which offers amazing views. A quick stretch of the legs at Maits Rest Rainforest Walk, before we take a longer drive down to Cape Otway. A short drive away was Castle Cove, where we hiked a part of the Great Ocean Walk to Johanna Beach and back. Although the walk requires moderate fitness (9 km total, 350m elevation gain), I would definitely recommend it. We then make our way to the campsite in Aire River East, which has to be booked through the Parks Victoria website.

After some sleep, we make our way deeper into the Great Otway National Park, with visits to the Hopetoun Falls, the Triplet Falls and the Madsen Track at Melba Gully. We end our third day - and this video - at The Gables.

As noted in the video, there will be two more videos related to the Great Ocean Road. The first will be our experience at the Otway Fly zipline tour and treetop walk. The second will focus on the awe-inspiring rock formations that are found further down the GOR.

Important Note: Because of the restrictions on international travel at the time of recording (Jan 2021), it was more important than ever for locals to support the Australian tourism industry, hence the timing of our trip. Because it was outside of school holiday period and due to the lack of international tourists, the business of sites in our video should not be taken as a reference of normal travel periods.
