The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology (https://tyrrellmuseum.com/), named in honour of Joseph Burr Tyrrell (TEER-uhl), is a palaeontology museum and research facility located in Drumheller, Alberta, Canada. It is Canada’s only museum dedicated solely to the study and display of prehistoric life. The museum is situated within a 12,500-square-metre-building (135,000 sq ft) designed by BCW Architects at Midland Provincial Park.

The museum’s personal collection includes over 160,000 cataloged fossils, consisting of over 350 holotypes, providing the museum with the largest collection of fossils in Canada. The museum displays approximately 800 fossils from its collection in its museum exhibits1.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology has a variety of popular exhibits that visitors can explore:

**Cretaceous Alberta**: This exhibit focuses on the Cretaceous period in Alberta's history.
**Fossils In Focus**: This exhibit showcases some of the museum's most significant and interesting fossils.
**Dinosaur Hall**: Almost 40 mounted dinosaur skeletons, including specimens of Tyrannosaurus rex and Albertosaurus, are displayed here⁴.
**Preparation Lab**: Here, visitors can watch paleontologists work on their latest discoveries.
**Grounds For Discovery**: This exhibit showcases some of the most significant fossils discovered in Alberta.
**Burgess Shale**: This exhibit focuses on the Burgess Shale, a fossil-bearing deposit in the Canadian Rockies.
**Palaeozoic Era**: This exhibit focuses on the Paleozoic era, which occurred between 541 and 252.17 million years ago.
**Triassic Giant**: This exhibit showcases the fossils of giant creatures from the Triassic period.
**Cretaceous Garden**: This exhibit recreates the environment of the Cretaceous period with life-size models of dinosaurs and plants.
**Cenozoic Gallery**: This exhibit focuses on the Cenozoic era, also known as the Age of Mammals.

The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology is home to many famous fossils. Here are some of the most notable ones:

1. **Borealopelta markmitchelli**: This is the best-preserved armoured dinosaur in the world. It lived about 110 million years ago during the Early Cretaceous period.

2. **Shonisaurus sikanniensis**: This is the largest marine reptile ever found. It existed during the Triassic period, 220 million years ago.

3. **Albertonectes vanderveldei**: This is the longest-necked animal ever, with a record 76 neck vertebrae (small bones). It's an elasmosaur, which is a type of marine reptile characterized by its long neck.

4. **Ornithomimus**: This is the best-preserved ornithomimid dinosaur ever found. It’s nearly 100% complete.

5. **Gorgosaurus libratus**: This is the most complete tyrannosaurid skeleton ever found.
