Organ donation is a beautiful and noble expression of generosity. Organs can be donated when someone dies, is declared brain dead, or is still alive. Every year, organ donors give thousands of people a new start in life.
Last June, a young man made headlines as the first foreigner to become a living donor in Korea. Gabriel Andrus, an American, decided to donate his kidney to someone he had never even met before. He came to Korea 3 years ago in search of new cultural experiences and now teaches in the Department of Christian Studies at Hannam University.
Professor Andrus′ choice came from his belief that helping someone else live is the greatest good one can do in this world. This week on [Heart to Heart], we talk to him about organ donations and a life of altruism.

세상에서 가장 아름답고도 숭고한 나눔으로 불리는 ′장기 기증′. 장기기증은 기증 시점에 따라 뇌사, 사후, 생존시 기증으로 구분되며, 장기기증으로 수천 명의 사람들이 새 생명을 얻고 있다.
지난 6월, 한국에서 최초로 생존시 장기를 기증한 외국인의 소식이 전파를 타 화제가 됐다.
타국에서 얼굴도 모르는 이에게 신장 하나를 나누고자 생애 처음으로 수술대에 오른 외국인은 바로 ′가브리엘 앤드루스′!
