What the Hell Happened to Indianapolis, Indiana??

Описание к видео What the Hell Happened to Indianapolis, Indiana??

Indianapolis is now more dangerous that Chicago!!

When you think about ghetto and dangerous cities in the midwest, you’re gonna think about Chicago, Cleveland and St. Louis. But there’s another emerging leader in the race to be the worst place to live in the region. It’s Indianapolis.

For decades now, Indianapolis had been keeping its crime numbers under control. Even back in the 90s, you could walk around and feel somewhat safe here. But look at how fast the murder rate has gone up here in the last 5 or 6 years. It’s getting super bad, and leaders here are struggling to find a way to fix the mess. In 2021, Indy has set a record for murders, which is even higher than last year’s previous homicide record. The number of murders here has gone up every year since 2012 except for a tiny drop in 2018.

One report even says today, Indianapolis has a higher murder rate per capita than Chicago. And that’s saying a LOT people. This place is now in the top 10 for violent crimes per capita in the nation, people. It used to be that the crime was limited to beef between thugs, but today, the innocent, hard-working people are being targeted in Indianapolis.

And the worst of it all is located on the city’s east side. It’s always been bad on the city’s east and northeast ends, but lately, it’s turning into something you’d normally see in far more traditionally violent cities.

So, for this video, we’re going to drive through the worst possible places you can live on the east side of this city. We’ll visit areas that are rundown, poverty stricken and really really dangerous. The day I made the drive was a bright, sunny day right before Thanksgiving in 2021. Here’s a map of the area we’ll be covering.

We’re begin on the far east end of town right on the border of Indianapolis and a city called Lawrence. It’s here that the TV show Live PD used to film. The area we’re in right now is at the intersection of 42nd and Post Road. Ask anyone in Indy about 42nd and Post road and they’ll be like - that place is NUTS. Check this out - on the fringes of the Indianapolis border I found an abandoned housing project that’s been taken over by squatters. I’ve never seen anything like it before and I’ve been to a lot of bad areas, people.

I mean certain parts of town aren’t that bad - downtown isn’t that dangerous, and parts of the north end and south side of town can be really safe. But crime’s even creeping into the posh burbs of Zionsville, Fishers and Noblesville these days.

In a lot of the east side, there’s food deserts, bad schools, poor living conditions, run down areas and lots and lots of gun violence. In some parts of this side of town up to 1 in 4 homes is vacant and abandoned.

100 kids younger than 18 were shot in 2021 in Indy. Some kids as young as 3 years old were just shot by stray bullets while playing in their homes. What is GOING on. It used to be they didn’t shoot women and kids. There’s no code here anymore, pal.

They tried to do a three day cease fire here. It lasted…two days.

To break the cycle of violence and poverty the city is trying to mentor kids and give them access to after school programs and open up community facilities like the YMCA and boys and girls club. The police also proactively patrol areas like this where gun violence typically occurs. They’re also investigating gunshots more often and tracking guns and suspects more.

But they didn’t get here overnight, so they’re certainly not going to turn it around overnight either.

Indianapolis is getting $419 million in federal money and apparently $150 million of that will be used to boost public safety. $150 million?? Really? Where’s all that money gonna go? This city’s NOT that big. The feds are giving Indy $150 million for public safety? Think about where we could use that money if we didn’t have to spend it on stopping the worst of our society from killing one another. $150 million people.

One lady at a non profit said - we’re still trying to solve with 1960 money. We need to be solving crime with 2025 monies. Yeah i think you need a new plan not more money lady.
